I think that this idea is completely horrible and I can't believe Newland Archer would even think that. If he is thinking about his wife, May, dying just so that he can be free to be with Ellen Olenska, then I don't think he deserves to be with her. I think this shows that he is selfish, because I think any person who would picture someone else dead for their own happiness only cares about their self. Newland needs to think about May's life and happiness as well, not just his own.
